About this course

MIT's introductory chemistry course 5.111 as taught in fall 2014: 35 full lectures of about 45 minutes each. It starts with why chemical principles matter, atomic structure, the wave-particle duality of light and matter, the Schrodinger equation and hydrogen atom energy levels and orbitals, and goes on through periodic trends, bonding and molecular structure, thermodynamics, chemical equilibrium, acids and bases, oxidation-reduction and transition metals, ending with kinetics, catalysts and applications. A rigorous first-year university course, well suited to strong A Level and FSc students heading to engineering or science degrees.
