About this course

MIT's introductory microeconomics course, taught by Professor Jonathan Gruber and published on MIT OpenCourseWare as 26 lectures of 40 to 50 minutes. It starts with supply and demand, preferences and utility functions, budget constraints and constrained choice, and demand curves with income and substitution effects. It then builds the theory of the firm through production and costs, perfect competition, consumer and producer surplus and welfare economics, followed by monopoly, oligopoly, and labour and capital markets. The final lectures cover choices over time, international trade, uncertainty, social insurance, efficiency and equity, redistribution and taxation, externalities, behavioural economics and health care economics. Some algebra helps; it is a rigorous university-level foundation for business and finance students.
